A key suspect connected to a series of armed robberies in the Upper West Region particularly within the Sissala area has been arrested following a joint operation by the Regional Police Command and the Tumu Police Command.
The suspect, identified as Mamuda Kunja, aged 25, a Fulbe by descent and believed to be the leader of an armed robbery gang, was apprehended at his usual hideout in Ponyantega, located in the Wa West District, according to a reliable source close to the Tumu Police Command.
Investigations indicate that Mamuda leads a five-member criminal group and is the fourth suspect to be arrested in connection with the robberies. The remaining suspect, known as Daudu, is currently on the run.
Mamuda Kunja has been formally charged with conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery. He has been arraigned before the Wa Circuit Court and is scheduled to reappear on February 3, 2026. He is presently in police custody as investigations continue.
